Can I make or receive phone calls on my BlackBerry?
No, we do not offer voice service on our BlackBerry devices. You are on a Data only service plan.
How do I create my own BlackBerry email address?
You can create a BlackBerry email address via your pager by doing the following:
1) From the main screen, click on the "Setup Internet Email" icon
2) Select your Time Zone by clicking on it
3) Click on "Get Link"
4) Scroll to bottom of screen and click on "Yes" to agree to the T&C
5) Click on "Accept"
6) Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and click on "Create a BlackBerry email address"
7) Click on "Get Link"
8) You will see a message stating, "Some input fields are incomplete. Do you want to edit them?" Click on "No"
9) Scroll down to the text box and enter the username you want for your BlackBerry email
10) Scroll down and click on "Next"
11) Click on "Next" again
You should see a Congratulations message coming up confirming that your BlackBerry email was successfully created.
IMPORTANT: Once you have successfully created a BlackBerry email address please email help@goamerica.com with your name and email address so that we may update our system.
How do I send an email from my BlackBerry?
To send emails from your BlackBerry please follow the instructions below:
- From the main screen, with all the icons, click on the Compose Icon or type C.
- Click on [Use Once] using the roller wheel, or select the address entry of your choice.
- You will then have a side menu pop up. Scroll and select Email…Using the roller wheel.
- Enter the email address you want to send a message to.
- Press on the roller wheel.
- Scroll and select Continue using the roller wheel.
- Type your message.
- Press on the wheel, a side menu will appear.
- Scroll and select Send.
You have now successfully sent a message!
Does my BlackBerry have a phone number?
Yes, your BlackBerry has a phone number for people to use when sending you a SMS Message. To locate the phone number for your BlackBerry please follows the instructions below:
- Scroll and select the PHONE icon
- Dial #686# (hold shift key for first # sign)
- Scroll and select CALL
- A message will pop up that says "Your T-Mobile number is #XXX-XXX-XXX"
Why is my phone number not a local number?
A local number is not necessary since there is no voice service available. You will not be charged long distance charges for sending SMS Messages.
How do I send a SMS Message (Text Message)?
You may send a SMS message (Text Message to Cell Phone) by following the steps below:
1) Click on the Compose Icon by pressing the roller wheel or press C from the main screen (screen with all the icons).
2) Select [Use Once] by pressing on the roller wheel.
3) Scroll and select SMS... by using the roller wheel.
4) Enter the phone number for the cell phone you want to send a text message to (Do not enter a 1 before the number, as well as any dashes or spaces) and press the roller wheel.
5) Scroll and select Continue using the roller wheel.
6) Type your message, a maximum of 140 characters. Press the roller wheel when you are done typing your message.
7) Scroll and select Send using the roller wheel.
8) You have successfully sent a SMS Message (text message).
How do I check my SMS Message usage?
You can check on the amount of SMS (text) messages by following the instructions below:
- Scroll and select the PHONE icon
- Dial #674# (hold shift key for first # sign)
- Scroll and select CALL
- A message will pop up that say tells you the amount of SMS (text) messages you used and the amount you have remaining. It will also give you a Bill Close date.
NOTE: The Bill Close date is the date that your SMS messages are reset. You will be billed for any additional SMS messages, over the 300 you are allotted, on your following month’s statement.
Can I get i711 Wireless on my GoAmerica BlackBerry?
Yes, You can now make relay calls on your BlackBerry 6230 via i711 Wireless. To install i711 Wireless on your BlackBerry, you will first need to upgrade to the 4.0 BlackBerry software. From a desktop computer, please go to this website to download the BlackBerry 4.0 software.
Once you download the software, double-click on the downloaded file and install it on your desktop computer. Once the software has been installed on you desktop computer, please connect the BlackBerry to your desktop computer via the USB cable that was shipped with your BlackBerry. Run the BlackBerry desktop manager.
If you don't have the desktop manager installed on your computer, please install it. The BlackBerry Desktop Manager Software is included on the cd that shipped with your BlackBerry.
Once you run the BlackBerry Desktop Manager, you will see a window pop up which says, "Updated versions of the applications listed below are available for your handheld". Please click on the "Update Now" button to update the software. Please follow the prompts and do not change any of the default settings.
Once you upgrade to 4.0, please do the following:
1) Click on "T-Zones"
2) Click on the scroll wheel and then click on "Go To…"
3) Type www.i711.com/bb/
4) Please read the terms and conditions and click on I Agree, this will bring you to the i711 download page
5) Click on "Download"
6) Click "Ok" and click on the back button under the scroll wheel to go back to main screen
7) Click on "Options" then click on "TCP"
8) On the "APN:", type "wap.voicestream.com"
9) Click on the scroll wheel and click on "Save"
I am having problems downloading i711 Wireless from my BlackBerry. Is there a manual install I could try?
If you are having problems downloading the i711 Wireless software via your BlackBerry, you can do a manual install by doing the following:
1) Connect the USB cable that shipped with your BlackBerry to both your computer and the BlackBerry
2) Download and install the BlackBerry Desktop Manager by going to http://www.blackberry.com/support/downloads/index.shtml.
3) Download the i711 Wireless software via your desktop computer by going to http://www.i711.com/bb/i711BBinstaller.exe.
4) Double click on the i711BBinstaller.exe file and install it on your computer
5) Run the BlackBerry Desktop Manager and then click on Application Loader
6) Click on "Next" then click on "Add" and go to Program Files\i711 Wireless for BlackBerry
7) Highlight the file "i711Wireless.alx" and click on "Open"
8) Click on "Next" then click on "Finish"
9) Once the install is completed, click on "Close"
How do I make a relay using i711 Wireless from my BlackBerry?
You can make a relay call on your BlackBerry via i711 Wireless, by following the instructions below:
1) From the main screen, click on the i711 Wireless icon
2) Scroll down to the text box and enter in the area code and phone number (please note that you should not leave any spaces or type any hyphens when entering the number. For example, type 5558619054)
3) Scroll down to and click on "Start Call"
4) Click on "Start Call" again
5) Optionally, you may enter any special instructions for the operator at this point
6) Scroll down to and click on "Ok" to begin the call
BlackBerry 6230 QuickTips
1. Press ALT while rolling the track wheel to scroll horizontally in any screen where you can type or view text.
2. When typing text, press and hold a letter while rolling the track wheel to scroll through the accents, symbols, or marks associated with that character. When the desired character appears, release the letter key.
3. Press ESCAPE to exit any menu, dialog box, or screen.
4. Press the first letter or an item in an options list or menu to move directly to that item.
5. To find a contact in the To or Find screens, type the first letters of a name, or the initials separated by a space.
6. To copy and paste text, press ALT and click the track wheel. Roll the track wheel to select text. To copy the selected text, press ALT and click the track wheel. To paste the selected text, place the cursor in an editable field, and then press SHIFT and click the track wheel.
7. Press and hold a letter to capitalize it (you must have Key Rate enabled).
8. Press SPACE twice to insert a period when typing text (the letter following the period will be capitalized automatically).
9. Press the SPACE key to insert the "@" and "." characters in an Email field.
10. Press R in an open message or in the Messages application to reply to the sender.
11. Press F in an open message or in the Messages application to forward the message.
12. Press L in an open message or in the Messages application to reply to all recipients.
13. Press ENTER to move down a page in an open message. Press ALT + ENTER to move up a page.
14. Press ALT + RIGHT SHIFT to turn on CAP-lock mode. Press SHIFT again to turn it off.
15. Press ALT + O to view outgoing messages. Press ALT + I to view incoming messages.
16. Press T to go to the top of a list or an open received message. Press B to go to the bottom.
17. Press N to go to the next date on the Messages screen. Press P to go to the previous date and press U to go to the next unread item.
18. Press number keys, without using ALT, to insert numbers in the Phone, Work, Home, Mobile, PIN, and Fax fields.
19. In the Calendar's Day view, press SPACE to go to the next day. Press SHIFT+SPACE to go to the previous day.
20. In the Calendar's Week view, hold ALT and roll the track wheel to scroll horizontally through the days.
